Institute Email and Internet Usage

  • IISER Bhopal Community members· are expected to use the Internet and network services responsibly and productively. The equipment, services and technology used to access the Internet are the property of the Computer Centre, IISER Bhopal and the Computer Centre reserves the right to monitor Internet traffic and access data that is composed, sent or received through its online connections. The emails sent via the Institute's email system should not contain content that is deemed to be offensive. This includes, though is not restricted to, the use of vulgar or harassing language/images. All sites and downloads may be monitored and/or blocked by the Computer Centre, IISER Bhopal. The Computer Centre will reserve the right to any software installation.

    Section A- Guidelines for usage of official e-mail account

  • Misuse or abuse of electronic mail facility is punishable under Information Technology Act, Government of India.
  • E-mail services are a privilege, not a right. The official E-mail account provided to a faculty, staff or student is meant for the official purpose only.
  • Users' responsibility to keep their E-mail account in good standing, not give out passwords, hold responsibility for any activity originating from that account and use the email account in ways that are responsible, ethical, lawful and professional.
  • The users are strictly advised to post only the academic or research related emails or contents to the groups at different levels.
  • The users are strongly advised to use a strong password of at least 8 characters and preferably in the combination of alphabets and numbers. It is mandatory to change the password if you are login into the e-mail system first time or after reset.
  • The login problems or failure of logging into the official e-mail account may be reported to the Computer Centre. The e-mail accounts which are not activated within three months from the date of issue will be deleted permanently without any prior notice.
  • Users who violate the above stated E-mail usage policy will be subject to disciplinary action. CC may monitor individual users suspected of violating this policy.
  • The disciplinary actions likely to be enforced for such violation of any of the above Rules/policies include.
    • Issue of a warning letter or e-mail to the user.
    • Temporary or permanent suspension of users e-mail account for a month or a semester or permanent removal or termination of users e-mail account from the Institute's domain.

  • Section B - Improper/Offensive use of Internet or related services

  • Sending or posting discriminatory, harassing, or threatening messages or images on the Internet or via the Institute's email service.
  • Using computers to perform any form of fraud, and/or software, film or music piracy.
  • Stealing, using, or disclosing someone else's password or identity without authorization.
  • Attempting to log in through another person's account or trying to bypass the firewall security /proxy or access rules arranged by the Computer Centre, IISER Bhopal.
  • Attempting to gain access to material that is blocked or filtered by the Computer Centre.
  • Sharing confidential material, trade secrets, or proprietary information outside of the Computer Centre.
  • Downloading, copying or pirating software and electronic files that are copyrighted or without authorization.
  • Hacking into unauthorized websites or execution of denial of services.
  • Engaging in uses that jeopardize access into others' accounts or other computer networks.
  • Sending or posting information that is defamatory to the Computer Centre.
  • Introducing malicious software onto the Institute's network and/or jeopardizing the security of the organization's electronic communications systems.
  • Sending or posting chain letters, solicitation, or advertisements not related to the Institute's activities or policies.
  • Damaging computer equipment, files, data or the Institute's Internet System in any way, including spreading computer viruses, vandalizing data or software, damaging or disabling others' electronic property, or engaging in conduct that could interfere or cause a danger of disruption to the Institute's educational or electronic communications system.
  • The users are strictly advised not to indulge in any unacceptable behaviour or activity in the E-mail environment. The unacceptable behaviour includes, but not limited to, distribution of unsolicited and unauthorized mass e-mail to users, threatening users, infringements of others' privacy, interference with others' work, copyright infringement and illegal activity.
  • Posting buy /sale deals to the.group mailing lists or any content which is not of a common interest of the members of such group mailing lists are not permitted. All terms and conditions as stated in this document are applicable to all the users of IISER Bhopal network and Internet connection. Any user violating these policies is subject to disciplinary actions deemed appropriate by the competent authority or the head of the Institution.
  • Violations of policy will be treated as academic misconduct, misdemeanor, or indiscipline as appropriate. Depending upon the nature of the violation, HoD, CSS may take an action by issue a warning through disabling the account and for routine infraction appropriates fines/penalties as determine by institute authorities.
