Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan is an initiative taken by MHRD to nurture a spirit of enquiry and creativity for school children. Under this flagship five schools have been assigned by the Ministry to IISER Bhopal for mentoring (two schools in a nearby village Bhauri, two in Bakaniya and one in Jamuniyacheer). “Prayaas” a voluntary student organization and a social initiative of IISER Bhopal to educate the children of construction workers on our campus is actively involved in RAA activities teaching has been started in all five schools. The volunteers visit the schools every saturday and conduct science and maths classes for standards VI - XII.
There are activities held that engage the students and explore the fun side of Science and Mathematics. There are also activities that encourage the students to take up reading as a hobby.
The first workshop for these students was done in the premises of IISER Bhopal on 28th October, 2017. There were 3 lectures that included talks to spread awareness about nutrition, health and general hygiene. The students were also given a talk on Science and the correct way of studying it. They were also taken for a tour of our campus as well as the state of the art labs where some basic experiments were demonstrated to them. The active participation and the response shown by the participants was overwhelming. More such workshops are on the card.
