The Research group of Dr Mitradip Bhattacharjee, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science has developed a miniaturized, battery-free electronic capsule (e-Pill) that integrates flexible temperature and light sensors with magnetic navigation and real-time IoT monitoring. Measuring just 6 mm × 20 mm, the device enables precise positioning and reliable data collection in confined or hard-to-reach environments. Designed for both ingestible and non-ingestible use, the e-Pill can detect abnormalities, track drug or chemical release, and support a wide range of biological and structural health monitoring applications. Feasibility is demonstrated through in vivo experiments using a fish model. For more details, kindly visit https://www.nature.com/articles/s41528-026-00540-w.
